The Sydney Swans are saddened by the passing of former player Vic “Stretch” Aanensen, who has died at the age of 72 after a long illness.

Aanensen played 40 games and kicked 30 goals for South Melbourne from 1973-1976.

But it was for Port Melbourne in the VFA where Aanensen flourished as a ruckman.

He won the 1979 and 1981 JJ Liston Trophy, which is awarded to the VFL’s (formerly VFA's) best and fairest player, was a three time best and fairest for Port Melbourne and was a premiership player for Port Melbourne in 1977, 1980 and 1981.

In 2004, Aanensen was named in Port Melbourne’s Team of the Century.

The Sydney Swans extend the club’s deepest condolences to Vic’s family and friends.
