The QBE Sydney Swans Academy U16 boys team have kicked off their National Development Championships in style with a 29-point win over the GWS Giants at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Saturday.

After an even first term, the Swans put their foot down in the second quarter, dominating play and had they been more accurate (kicking 3.8) they could have had an even greater margin at the main break. The Swans continued to hunt at the contest in the second half and kicked six goals to claim a 29-point win, 10.14.74 to GWS 6.9.45.

Best for the Swans were Charlie McClennan, Monte Cairns, Coen Hardy, Duke Marshall-Orr, Laurence Bennell, Hayden McAusland.

The team will head to the Gold Coast for games against Brisbane and the Gold Coast to round out their National Development Championship games on July 14 and 17.

The QBE Sydney Swans Academy U15 teams were also in action in Canberra on Saturday.

The U15 girls recorded a 26-point win over the Giants with goals to E Hollingsworth (2) L.Davidson (2), H.Blowes, E.Coughlin, M.Carlyon (1).

Meanwhile it was a heartbreaker for our U15 boys who were defeated after the siren in their match against GWS.
