Senior coach Dean Cox has named three key players to return for Sunday’s must-win clash with Fremantle at the SCG.

Key forward Joel Amartey, defender Tom McCartin and utility Joel Hamling return for the match, at the expense of Dane Rampe (calf), Aaron Francis (suspension) and Oli Florent (omitted).

McCartin was a late withdrawal from the game against the Western Bulldogs due to illness.

“He will slot straight back in and they've (Fremantle) got three or four really dangerous talls, and he'll be really crucial to line up on one of those,” Cox shared.

Round 17

Amartey has been named at full forward, after pulling up with a tight hamstring in the team's Round 15 win over Port Adelaide.

“He has the ability to come up at the footy to provide a really strong contest ahead of the ball,” said Cox.

Hamling is back after a strong match last week in the VFL.

“He's been really consistent. He's been behind and ahead of the ball in the VFL, which has been really good,” Cox said.

Cox said his side was eyeing greater consistency on Sunday.

“They've (Fremantle) been really dangerous. Their ball movements changed a little bit, which is something we've looked at since our first game we played them.

“They've won six in a row. They're going into some good form and they get some real variety through their mids and forwards.”

“With Shai Bolton and Luke Jackson playing on ball, we need to make sure that we can quell their influence and be aware of that they're a high-handball team, so we need to apply plenty of pressure on those opportunities and try and get the turnovers in dangerous spots.”
