The Sydney Swans have overcome a 30-point deficit at quarter time to record an emphatic come-from-behind victory over North Melbourne at Tramway Oval on Saturday afternoon.

It was an incredible fight back after conceding eight goals in the opening term before restricting the Kangaroos to just three more majors for the remainder of the contest.

Caiden Cleary starred with 30 disposals, five marks and seven clearances, while Indhi Kirk (23 disposals, seven tackles), Jesse Dattoli (three goals, 14 disposals) and Tom Hanily (four goals) were shining lights for the red and white.

It was a crucial victory in the context of the Swans' VFL season considering they had mustered just two wins in the lead up to this fixture.

Assistant coach Adam Kennedy says he was proud of the team's response to a disappointing opening quarter.

"The first quarter was obviously not how we wanted to play, and it was not at at the standard we want to be performing, but to the players credit they made a choice to respond and did so in a great way," Kennedy said.

"It started with our contest and I thought there were some really great efforts that set the tone, and we were a bit more composted with the footy which helped with our forward entries.

"We were proud of the team's response for the remaining three quarters, and then the ability to deliver under immense pressure in the last term has helped set a really good benchmark for the rest of the year."

North Melbourne raced out of the blocks with two goals in quick succession before Tom Hanily broke the Bloods' deadlock, although five consecutive goals from the Kangaroos quickly nullified any Swans threat.

The Swans lacklustre start, however, was quickly put to bed with a Matt Lloyd goal in the first minute of the second quarter - setting the tone for a much improved performance from the remainder of the contest.

The Swans continued to fight back with elite tackle pressure, led by Kirk, and it culminated into a special moment for Kaiden McNamara, a QBE Sydney Swans Academy talent, who kicked a goal on his VFL debut.

Dattoli, who was sidelined for the first half of the season, showed glimpses of his potential with a classy goal that saw him latch onto a Warner kick with his right foot while simultaneously beating his defender in a one-on-one contest.

The Swans two-way running also improved significantly in the second-half, with some desperate tackles paving the way for goals to Lloyd and Dattoli.

Those ignited the red and white to keep hold of a four-point advantage at the end of the third quarter, thanks to Hanily who kicked his fourth of the afternoon.

A third goal from Lloyd at the start of the fourth quarter would ensure a healthy 10-point buffer to start the final term, and despite the best efforts of North Melbourne, the Swans held on to record a heart-stopping and well deserved victory at home.
