After a late-season bye in Round 20, the Sydney Swans VFL side is back in action this Sunday for a clash with the Geelong Cats. The game marks the club's last reserves of the game this season after a tough run. 

Five changes have been made to Jarrad McVeigh's team with AFL-listed players Ben Paton and Patrick Snell sidelined with injury, alongside captain Nick Shipley.

Peter Ladhams who has had a strong run in the VFL has been elevated to the AFL side, replacing Brodie Grundy who sustained concussion in last week's game against the Brisbane Lions. 

Into the team returns James Tidemann, Byron Laws, Angus Hanrahan, Noah Chamberlain and Nicholas Andreacchio. 

The Swans are coming off a dominant win over Essendon in Round 19, and a well-earned break in Round 20. 

The game will take place on Tramway Oval at 11:35am on Sunday, August 17 prior to the AFL match on the SCG at 3:15pm.

Live streaming and broadcast

All matches in the 2025 Smithy’s VFL and rebel VFLW seasons will again be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL/W App. In a first, all VFL and VFLW matches will feature commentary this season. The Seven Network will continue to broadcast one Smithy’s VFL game live and free on Channel 7 in Victoria and on 7Plus nationally most weeks of the season.

Ticketing

Where Smithy’s VFL matches are ticketed, entry is $10 for adults, $5 for concession holders and kids under 15 are free. Some venues don't charge for entry including Tramway Oval. AFL ticketing prices apply for VFL matches played as curtain-raisers and curtain-closers to AFL matches.
