Exciting, dashing defender Zippy Fish has been named the Telstra AFLW Round 2 Rising Star nominee following Sydney’s 82-point win over the Gold Coast on Saturday.

After a record-equalling 26-disposal debut in Round 1, Fish put on another impressive display against the Suns, notching 27 disposals, including eight intercepts, and using the ball at 85 per cent efficiency.

The 19-year-old, who grew up in Newman, a town in the Pilbara approximately 13 hours northeast of Perth, has recorded the most metres gained across the opening two rounds of the competition with 1076 metres.

Fish arrived in the Harbour City after she was taken with Sydney's first pick and fifth selection overall in the 2024 AFLW Draft after a strong season with East Fremantle.

Sydney Swans senior coach Scott Gowans said Fish had slotted into the side seamlessly this season.

“We’ve been really pleased with what Zippy has shown in her first season, and she is very deserving of a Rising Star nomination,” Gowans said.

“Her composure and run off half-back have been very impressive, and she makes great decisions with the footy.

“She’s got a great team-first mentality, and we’re really excited for her future and what she can continue to produce.”

Sydney will be looking to make it three wins on Saturday when it takes on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on at 3.05pm before returning home for Marn Grook at Henson Park, on Sunday September 7 at 1.05pm
