The Sydney Swans have welcomed Jeremy Laidler back to the club as an assistant coach and appointed Wayne Campbell as Head of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy.

Laidler first joined the red and white in 2014 as a player, following previous stints at Geelong and Carlton. After retiring at the end of 2017, he remained at the club as a development coach before being named Sydney’s VFL Head Coach, a role he held for five years.

Laidler has spent the past three seasons at the GWS Giants as an assistant coach, looking after the side’s forward line.

Sydney Swans Executive GM AFL Football, Leon Cameron, welcomed Laidler back to the club.

“Jeremy is a fantastic addition to our coaching group, and it’s great to have him back at the Swans,” Cameron said.

“Spending the past three years at the Giants has seen Jeremy develop his coaching skills and he brings a wealth of football knowledge from his time both playing and coaching.

“We’re thrilled Jeremy will continue his coaching career here at the Swans.”

Campbell joins the Sydney Swans following four years as the Gold Coast Suns General Manager of Football.

Highly respected in the AFL industry, Campbell has had a decorated career on and off the field, playing 297 games with Richmond before holding various off-field roles at the Tigers and Western Bulldogs.

He has also held roles as the Head of Umpiring at the AFL, the General Manager of Football Operations at the GWS Giants, and Director of Football at Sydney University.

Campbell, who will report to Executive Director - Club Performance John Longmire, will oversee key areas including Academy coaching, high performance, and operations.

Longmire said Campbell would bring a wealth of experience to the role.

“Wayne will be responsible for shaping the future of our talent development pathway and has a proven track record of successfully managing football programs,” Longmire said.

“He will be a fantastic addition to the QBE Sydney Swans Academy program, and we welcome him aboard.”
