Sydney Swans midfielder Laura Gardiner has been named Sydney’s AFLW Club Champion for a second time after another outstanding season.
Gardiner featured in all 12 games for the Swans this year, averaging 32 disposals and ten tackles. She collected 30 or more disposals on eight occasions, including a career-best game against Carlton in Round 9, where she recorded 43 disposals. Tonight’s accolade comes after Gardiner finished fifth in the AFLW Best and Fairest count last week.
The 23-year-old makes history as the first AFLW player to receive Sydney’s best and fairest award twice, after topping the count with 279 votes at the Club’s AFLW awards night on Friday. She was previously named Club Champion in 2023.
Gardiner’s impressive season was also recognised by her peers, taking out the Player’s Player Award.
Gardiner finished ahead of fellow midfielders Tanya Kennedy, who was runner-up with 231 votes, and Montana Ham who was third with 230.
Kennedy enjoyed a career-best season, averaging 19 disposals and eight tackles, while Ham averaged 19 disposals at 60% disposal efficiency and booted seven goals in 12 games.
In other honours presented on the night, utility Zippy Fish claimed the Rising Star award following her outstanding first year in the competition and veteran Jasmine Grierson was awarded the Best Club Person Award for her contribution on and off the field.
