The Swans overwrote 129 years and 1251 games worth of VFL/AFL history when they beat the West Coast Eagles by a whopping 128 points in Perth on Saturday.

The 24-19 (163) to 4-11 (35) thumping was the biggest away win in club history, surpassing the previous record holder; a 126-point demolition of Fitzroy at Whitten Oval in 1995, when Tony Lockett kicked 16 goals.

It was the 22nd time the Swans have won by a margin greater than 100 points and the fifth away from the comforts of home at the SCG or Lake Oval in the days of South Melbourne.

A perfect celebration for Tom Papley’s 200th game, Saturday’s win ranks #7 on the Swans all-time winning margins, headed by two 171-point hammerings: by South Melbourne over St Kilda at Lake Oval in 1919, and Sydney over West Coast at the SCG in 2023.

The top 10 is:

171 – Sydney 31-19 (205) d West Coast 5-4 (34) – SCG – 2023
171 – South Melb 29-15 (189) d St Kilda 2-6 (18) – Lake Oval – 1919

The club’s other 100+ point wins interstate have been Richmond at Marvel in 2006 (118 points), Melbourne at the MCG in 1997 (116 points),  and St.Kilda at Moorabbin in 1985 (110 points).

Saturday’s win is also the second-biggest among non-Victorian clubs playing away from home, behind only Adelaide’s 135-point win over GWS at Sydney Showgrounds in 2013.

West Coast, 106-point winners over Melbourne at Princes Park in 1996, and GWS, 105-point winners over Carlton at Marvel Stadium in 2018, are the only other non-Victorian clubs to have posted a triple-figure away win.

Dane Rampe enjoyed his sixth 100+ point win on Saturday to join Jarrad McVeigh, Mark Bayes and Luke Parker at the top of the Swans’ 100+ Point Win Club.

Jake Lloyd, who kicked 3 of the team’s 24 goals including his 50th,  and Harry Cunningham, a late inclusion from Malcolm Rosas, posted their fifth 100+ point wins to join 13 players on the next rung – Craig Holden, Keiren Jack, Daryn Cresswell, Heath Grundy, Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery, Nick Smith, Warwick Capper, Rod Carter, Andrew Dunkley, Paul Kelly, Michael O’Loughlin and Jude Bolton.

It was the first 100+ point win for Brodie Grundy, Tom McCartin, Jai Serong, Sam Wicks, James Jordon, Riley Bice and Corey Warner.
