The Sydney Swans will bring a new-look side to Melbourne when the team clash with the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night. Senior coach Dean Cox has made three changes, including the absence of star midfielder Isaac Heeney.
He did not travel with the team to Melbourne today and won't play against the Bulldogs due to calf tightness.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed yesterday that QBE Sydney Swans Academy alumni Will Edwards will make his long-awaited debut to the senior side. He has played 44 VFL games in the red and white largely across half back since being recruited as a Category B rookie in the 2022 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
It was also announced that Billy Cootee a mature age selection from Norwood in the SANFL, taken with pick 42 in the 2025 Draft, would make his debut. Aged 22 Cootee dominated in his time in the SANFL, winning the Redlegs’ best and fairest last season, having previously captained Essendon’s VFL side.
"They're over the moon and so is the footy club and playing group. To see those guys who have had it a little bit of a different way than being drafted as an 18-year-old," Cox shared.
"(Will Edwards) has had numerous surgeries, resilience, perseverance to get to where he is today. And same with Billy to go from VFL, SANFL to get picked up as a mature age. They've been really impressive the last month and deserve their opportunity."
Dane Rampe will make his return to the side after being managed in Round 6. The veteran defender brings 14 years of experience to the backline and will take to the field alongside the aforementioned Edwards and Tom McCartin.
