The Sydney Swans have made one change to the side to take on Essendon at the SCG on Friday night.

Defender Colin O’Riordan has been added to the side to replace the injured Harry Cunningham who is set to miss the next six to eight weeks with an adductor injury.

O’Riordan returns to the senior side after just one match at AFL level this season in Round 2 before returning to the NEAFL where he has put in a strong string of performances.

Coach John Longmire said O’Riordan had worked hard to gain a recall.

“Colin’s form has been absolutely fantastic in our reserves so he really deserves a game,” Longmire said.

“He played a fair bit of senior footy over the pre-season so it is good to have him back in the team.”

Star forward Lance Franklin has failed to prove his fitness for the match against the Bombers and will be sidelined for another week.

“He didn’t make it through the session completely last night so we had a chat about it today and he is out this week,” Longmire said.

“We will just re-assess next week and see what he is like next week, so we will get a further idea at the start of next week if he is ok.”
