The Sydney Swans added to its midfield and forward stocks as well as improved its draft hand in the 2019 Telstra AFL Trade Period.

Lewis Taylor became a Swans player on Wednesday afternoon in a deal with the Brisbane Lions that will see the former Rising Star winner lining up in the red and white in 2020.

The Swans sent pick 48 the way of the Lions, a selection they got in a pick swap with Carlton that included giving up pick 54 and 63.

“We’re excited to have secured Lewis from Brisbane as we think he has the potential to be a really important player for us for years to come,” Head of Football Charlie Gardiner said.

“Lewis really burst onto the scene from a young age and showed he has great speed and elite skills that will really complement our side.”

Sydney speedster Zak Jones was traded to St Kilda along with pick 56 and a future fourth round pick in exchange for pick 32, 76 and a future third round pick.

“Zak expressed to us his desire to get back home to Melbourne during this trade period so we’re happy we were able to reach a mutually beneficial trade with St Kilda,” Gardiner said.

“Zak has been a fantastic player and much admired during his time at Sydney and we wish him all the best with the move back home and for the remainder of his football career.”

The Swans also completed a trade to send ruckman Darcy Cameron to Collingwood in exchange for pick 56 which was later used in the deal involving Jones.

Small forward Tom Papley will remain in the red and white in season 2020 after a deal could not be reached to send him to Carlton.

A deal could also not be brokered between Essendon and Sydney to facilitate a trade for Joe Daniher to make his way to the Swans.

“We have had a number of discussions with Essendon and those discussions were very respectful and we put forward what we believed were compelling offers,” Gardiner said.

“Unfortunately we were unable to satisfy Essendon’s demands.”

The Sydney Swans currently hold selections 5, 25, 32, 44, 76 and 81 in the indicative draft order ahead of the 2019 AFL National Draft in November.
