Lucy McEvoy will lead the Sydney Swans AFLW team as sole captain for the first time in 2026, with Sofia Hurley and Cynthia Hamilton named co-vice captains.
McEvoy has shared the captaincy with Chloe Molloy since 2023, where the pair led the club to its first AFLW win and finals series.
The 25-year-old has played 68 AFLW games, 35 in the red and white, after being taken as the number two pick in the 2019 draft.
McEvoy will be supported by Hurley and Hamilton who have been elevated to vice-captains for the first time in their careers.
The pair were the club’s second and third selections in the 2022 AFLW Draft, with Hamilton winning the inaugural Sydney Swans AFLW Club Champion in 2022, with Hurley claiming the honour in 2024.
Sydney Swans Executive General Manager - AFLW Football, Kate Mahony, said McEvoy, Hurley and Hamilton were voted in by their peers.
“We are thrilled to appoint Lucy as captain for the 2026 season, she clearly has the trust of the playing group and has shown how valuable she is to our team and club as a leader on and off field,” Mahony said.
“It’s fantastic to see Sofia and Cynthia recognised by their teammates as leaders and to appoint them as co-vice captains. As two of our first draft picks ahead of our inaugural season we have seen their leadership develop and believe they will complement and support Lucy exceptionally well.
"Across the playing group we know we have great leadership depth and have confidence the whole squad will contribute to driving the team forward.
“Finally, I want to thank Chloe Molloy for the exceptional role she played as co-captain. Her impact on this team and club can’t be underestimated. Lucy and Chloe have built a strong foundation for our program, and we are confident Lucy, Sofia and Cynthia will continue to build on that work and drive the standards and leadership of the group.”
