Sydney Swans defender Alice Mitchell will miss the 2026 AFLW season after she ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee at training.

Mitchell will have surgery in the coming weeks before commencing a rehabilitation program.

Sydney Swans AFLW senior coach Colin O'Riordan said the news was devastating for Alice and the team.

“We’re shattered for Alice, she had worked incredibly hard in the off-season and was putting together a really strong pre-season,” O'Riordan said.

“We’ll wrap our arms around her and do everything possible to ensure she is supported as she begins her rehabilitation.

“Alice is an important member of our squad and with her energy, and positive attitude, she will still play a key role for us this season.

“She is incredibly resilient, and we know she will tackle her recovery with professionalism and determination to come back stronger next year.”
