Sydney Swans AFLW captain Lucy McEvoy has locked in her future with the red and white, signing on with the club for another five seasons until at least the end of 2031.

The 25-year-old has become a pivotal part of Sydney’s line up since joining the Swans from Carlton in the pre-season of 2023.

McEvoy has played 68 games over seven seasons, with her leadership and composure hallmarks of her game. She has averaged 14 disposals and 186 metres gained throughout her career.

McEvoy landed at the Swans at the end of the 2022 season via the AFLW’s Priority Signing Period, having played 33 games for the Blues. McEvoy was announced as co-captain of the Swans AFLW side in July 2023, alongside Chloe Molloy and was elected by her peers to lead as sole captain ahead of the upcoming season.

Executive General Manager – AFLW Football, Kate Mahony said the club is thrilled to secure McEvoy for at least the next five seasons.

“Since arriving at the club, Lucy has shown tremendous dedication and she is integral to where the team is heading,” Mahony said.

“She is a fantastic leader of our group, and she should be applauded for her consistency, the girls all walk taller with Lucy alongside them. We are so excited that she has committed her future to the Swans.”

McEvoy said it was an easy decision to remain a Swan.

“It was a bit of a no-brainer, since coming to the Swans it's been such a great environment to be a part of, and it was a really simple decision,” McEvoy said. 

“To play for the Sydney Swans, it's such an honour, it always has been and it's something that I never take lightly every time I run out. 

“It’s exciting because we've still got such a young list and we're starting to feel like we know what we can achieve and put that expectation on ourselves, that we can compete with the best when we're at our best.”

The Swans AFLW season will start on Sunday, August 16 when they face the Adelaide Crows at Unley Oval, Adelaide in Round One.
