The Sydney Swans VFL side's unbeaten run has come to an end at the hands of a rampant Tasmania side, Sydney defeated by 30 points on Saturday morning at Tramway Oval.
It was just a 5-point game at the main break but the Devils stunned the Swans in a dominant third quarter, kicking nine consecutive goals to stamp their authority on the game.
The Swans responded with eight goals of their own in the final term but the damage had been done in the third term and the deficit was too much for a Swans comeback.
Earlier in the day, Sydney managed just one goal in the opening term with inaccuracy costing the home side, kicking 1.4, meanwhile the Devils were accurate down the other end taking a handy lead at the first break kicking 4.1
Sydney responded in the second term kicking three goals to one through Jedd Longmire, Jess Dattoli and Khy Gibbs.
However both sides continued to not capitalise in their forward fifty with ten behinds between the two teams in the second quarter.
Caiden Cleary and Ned Bowman were finding plenty of the footy with 14 first half disposals but it was former Swans and Devils Captain Robbie Fox who was showing up against his old side, with 20 first half disposals.
After the break it was all Tassie in the third term and they stunned the Swans with a nine-goal blitz, the Swans not adding to their total from the first half as the Devils took a 10 goal lead into the final quarter.
The Swans showed some fight in the final term kicking eight goals to bring the margin back, however they left some goals on the park, again wasting chances kicking 8.6 to the Devils 3.1.
Any chance of a Sydney comeback was halted by the Devils as they kicked three final quarter goals to claim a 30-point victory on the road.
Caiden Cleary (32 disposals and two goals) was among the best for the Swans while Angus Sheldrick (25 disposals) was also busy. Sam Wicks had 23 disposals in his return to footy after injury and Jedd Longmire and Jesse Dattoli kicked two goals each.
The Swans have a bye next week and the loss pushes them down a place on the ladder in fourth. They will finish the season against Essendon with that fixture TBC.
