The Sydney Swans VFL team have defeated Frankston by 68 points in the First VFL Wildcard Final at Blacktown on Saturday afternoon.Â
The win sees Sydney progress to the next round of the new VFL finals format, a place in the Elimination Final next week against Port Melbourne.
The Swans dominated at Blacktown from the get-go with a six goal opening term setting them up for the victory.
Forward Jake Sutton had three of the Swans first six goals while Corey Warner was finding plenty of the footy to generate chances in the forward line.
The Swans continued to dominate the scoreboard in the second term, despite the Dolphins cutting the margin back and kicking four goals of their own.
Swan Joe Harrison kicked two impressive goals before the half and debutant and QBE Sydney Swans Academy player Ben Pignatelli also found the goals for the first time at VFL level.
The second half was much like the first with the Swans putting their foot down to be completely in control at the final break with another seven goals on the scoreboard.
Jevan Phillipou was lively for the Swans, kicking a career best six goals and finishing with 25 disposals to be best on ground for the home side.
Corey Warner was also dominant, with 26 disposals and a goal in the opening term, while Jake Sutton finished with four goals (and six tackles), Joe Harrison had 25 disposals to go with his two goals and six tackles and Ned Bowman had 24 disposals.
