QBE Sydney Swans Academy products Pharrell Trapman and Oliver Sheridan have been named in the inaugural AFL Indigenous and Multicultural Futures Squads to head to Melbourne for a football camp and showcase match this week.

The two red and white players are have been named in the squad which comprises talented 16 and 17-year-old footballers, many of whom meet the AFL’s Next Generation Academy criteria.

The AFL Indigenous and Multicultural Futures program is an addition to the AFL Diversity talent pathways offering and forms an extension of the AFL’s Indigenous and Multicultural programs for 17 and 18-year-old footballers. 

The Futures program supports player retention within state talent pathways programs, while continuing individual player development. 

Many of the players named in the AFL Indigenous and Multicultural Futures squads will go on to take part in the 2027 AFL Indigenous and Multicultural Academy – a year-long program comprising in-person and online training and education for players in their Draft year or preparing to enter their Draft year.  

The Futures camps involve a range of football training sessions, as well as education sessions covering leadership and social, emotional and cultural wellbeing. 

Fellow Academy players Emily Hollingsworth, Myla Tucker, Ruby Luke and Tiffany Tomlinson, as well as Academy coach Bronwyn Gulden were involved in the girls’ program run earlier this month, which saw the AFL Indigenous Futures team claim a one-point win over the AFL Multicultural Futures team on Sunday, September 13.

The boys match will be played at RSEA Park on Wednesday, September 30 from 1:30pm.
