Angus Sheldrick has continued his development and solidified his place in the Sydney Swans team after a consistent showing throughout the 2026 season.
“I think I improved, but I think I've still got a little way to go in some areas, which everyone does. But overall, [I’m] happy, ready for a little break, but keen to see what next year holds for myself and the team,” Sheldrick said.
Sheldrick played in 20 games this season, with an average of 19.5 disposals, 10.7 handballs, 3.7 tackles and 3.1 clearances per game. Sheldrick had a career-high 30 disposals in the Swans' Round 12 victory over Richmond and a career-high seven tackles against Adelaide in Round 19.
“A couple of years ago there were some big steps for me that I had to make to get into the team and solidify my spot, but now it's more probably a bit of fine-tuning,” Sheldrick said.
“Making the right decisions on and off the ball, and if I can do that, I'll give myself every chance of improving again next year.”
Sheldrick was also the lone red and white player named in the 2026 AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 Squad, presented by Intrepid, earning his first selection.
Reflecting on the 2026 season, the Qualifying Final against Brisbane stands out the most for the 22-year-old. Both for the performance and the role the crowd and wider Swans fan base played in propelling the team to a victory that will long be remembered.
“It was just amazing. Everyone wrote us off, and we did well,” Sheldrick said.
‘We didn't really realise the impact that, you know, what we do, and I think over the last month, that's what I've learned out of it.
“There are so many stakeholders within the club, and everyone just loves seeing us go well. The support has been immense, but you know, we also owe it to them to put our best foot forward and win games for them.”
