The Sydney Swans have strengthened its draft hand for the next few years, securing selection 6 in the upcoming National Draft along with multiple future assets for Nick Blakey.
The Swans have acquired picks 6 and 47 in this year’s draft, a 2027 Second Round Pick, a 2028 First Round pick and a 2028 Second Round pick from North Melbourne, giving pick 52 and a 2028 Second Round pick back in the trade.
The Swans now have picks 6, 38, 39, 47, 54, 76 and 95 in the upcoming 2026 National Draft as well as three Second Round picks in 2027 and two First Round picks in 2028.
It’s the first time the Swans have had a top 10 draft pick since 2020, where they drafted Logan McDonald with pick 4 and matched a bid to take QBE Academy graduate Braeden Campbell at pick 5.
Blakey leaves the Sydney Swans having chalked up 173 games in the red and white since debuting in 2019. A QBE Sydney Swans Academy athlete, Blakey was initially drafted with pick 10 in 2018, after the Swans matched a bid from GWS.
Sydney Swans Head of List Strategy and Player Personnel, Chris Keane said he was pleased with what the Club acquired during the trade period.
“This trade with North has significantly improved our draft hand,” Keane said.
“Having a pick inside the top 10 is extremely valuable and not something we have had for a number of years, so we will get to work on landing the best player available.
“We thank Nick for his contribution to our football club since being drafted in 2018 and he leaves our club as a life member having played over 150 games.
“On behalf of the Club I wish Nick all the very best as he continues his career at the Kangaroos."
