Blossoming Sydney Swans youngster Jordan Dawson gave the club’s home supporters another taste of his tantalising value as both a midfielder and forward in Saturday night’s 41-point loss to GWS.

And the 22-year-old Swan says he’s happy to bolster the side in whichever position coach John Longmire wants him.

Isaac Heeney, who’s of the same age as Dawson, has built himself into a potent hybrid force since signing with the club as a draftee one year earlier – and Dawson sees himself taking on a similar mould.

“At the moment I’m playing on the wing or up forward – just whichever position I’m needed at the time. I’m looking to keep my spot in the team and play my role – and whether that’s on the wing, on the inside of the midfield or up forward, I’ll do whatever,” Dawson told SwansTV after his side’s SCG loss.

Dawson shone in the Round 6 clash, posting 18 disposals and two goals in the Sydney Derby XVII defeat.

The South Australian had played just five AFL games over three seasons heading into season 2019, but this year he’s already featured in five of a possible six.

He’s among the 70 per cent of Swans aged 24 or under, with names like Oliver Florent, Tom Papley, Tom McCartin and Ben Ronke also taking the early steps of their careers.

Fourth-year Swan Dawson is pleased to be logging regular games in top-flight footy, but he says he won’t be content until the young team begins to rise.

“It’s good that I’m finding consistent game time at AFL level, but it’s obviously a team sport and we want to be winning,” Dawson said.

“I’m pleased with where my game is, but we want to be winning as a team – and I won’t be satisfied until that’s the case.”
