Sydney Swans co-captain Dane Rampe has been given the all clear to return to the side to face Port Adelaide in Adelaide on Saturday.

Rampe missed Sydney Derby XVIII after he suffered an eye injury that forced him onto the sidelines.

Head of Football Charlie Gardiner said the 29-year-old defender will play on Saturday afternoon.

“Dane has seen the specialist this morning and has been given the all clear that he can play this weekend which is fantastic,” Gardiner said.

“He did some training this afternoon and will join the squad for our main training session on Thursday and take his place in the side this weekend which is great.”

Defender Colin O’Riordan looks likely to miss the remainder of the season with a groin injury he suffered against Carlton in Round 17.

“Colin picked up a groin injury against Carlton when he fell awkwardly and didn’t play last week,” O’Riordan.

“His recovery is going to be slower than we originally thought, it is more than likely that he won’t play again this year due to his groin injury.

“It is something that needs some weeks to settle down so unfortunately it looks like we won’t see Colin again this year so we will get him right for pre-season.”

Veteran Jarrad McVeigh's goal of playing one more match at the top level remains alive as he continues to increase his training loads.

“Jarrad is getting closer to a return," Gardiner said.

“He has missed a couple of weeks now with a calf injury, he will do some running this week with a view to joining the squad next week for some training.

“He certainly won’t play this week but he may be in contention next week and hopefully we can see him back out there before he farewells us as a Swans player.”
