The Sydney Swans joined all 18 clubs in Melbourne on Monday for the opening day of the 2019 Telstra AFL Trade Period.

Head of Football Charlie Gardiner and GM of Recruitment and List Strategy were on hand as negotiations began at Marvel Stadium.

The 2019 Telstra AFL Trade Period concludes at 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 16.

Find below a number of key updates from throughout the day on a number of players to keep an eye on during the trade period.

Joe Daniher
"It (the Daniher situation) has evolved fairly recently. What's important in all of this is to recognise that Joe is a contracted player at Essendon. If anything was to happen there, we'd obviously have to reach a deal with Essendon. Joe is a really good player. He's expressed a desire to come to Sydney, which is pleasing. As a footy club, we're obligated to consider that. When a player of his calibre expresses an interest we're duty-bound to consider it. We'll look at all of that and see how we can get it done."
Charlie Gardiner – Sydney Swans Head of Football

Tom Papley
“We look at our list in an overall sense – the two certainly aren't linked (Daniher and Papley. We'd like to keep Tom. He's our leading goalkicker this year, finished fourth in our best and fairest and is a member of our leadership group. We rate him really highly. We don't like to see players like that go out the door.”

Zak Jones
Zak is out of contract, he has been transparent, we have had an offer in front of Zak for a long time. Everyone knows within footy circles he comes from a really strong and tight family and his desire to return to Victoria is to be closer to his family. St Kilda is the club that has expressed interest and Zak has let us know that, he has been really transparent about that. There is still a trade needs to happen and we will make sure it works for the club if that is the case and that is how it pans out. You are always disappointed when a player expresses a desire to leave your club but we need to look at the set of circumstances. I would expect those conversations to play out in the next couple of days.”

Lewis Taylor and Riley Knight
“There is definitely an interest, we have had conversations with both Lewis and Riley. With the player movement period now you have to have irons in a number of fires because things can fall a certain way that you might not expected. I wouldn’t say they are right at the top of business at the moment as we clearly have some things on our plate at the minute but clearly there is an interest there.”
