Third-game Sydney Swan Jordan Dawson lapped up the emotion of his first win after Saturday night's heart-stopping victory over Collingwood.

The young midfielder literally soaked up the elation of his first AFL victory in red and white in the centre of the team-song huddle, left to drown in a Gatorade shower “I had dreamed of since I was a little kid”.

“The Gatorade shower was awesome,” Dawson told SwansTV post-match.

“To miss out on the first two games you’re thinking, ‘When’s it going to happen?’ But I’m very happy we got the win tonight and it was an awesome experience.”

Dawson made his AFL debut against Collingwood in Round 3, 2017 as Sydney fell to a one-point loss at the SCG.

He earned a senior recall for Sydney’s recent clash with Essendon but was again made to wait for his first Gatorade shower, with the Swans falling 43 points short at Etihad Stadium.

The Magpies again threatened to swoop on the Swans’ party on Saturday when seasoned campaigner Travis Varcoe goaled with five minutes left on the clock to hand his side a five-point lead.

But Swans forward Tom McCartin, who finished the match with just six touches, would produce a miracle goal with two minutes remaining to put Sydney two points ahead.

Collingwood twice marched inside 50 in the final two minutes but Sydney would hold on to clinch a dramatic win.

Dawson played an important role in the Round 20 victory, collecting 13 possessions and two goals and buoying the Swans in the midfield and forward line.

He had strung together a glowing run of form in the NEAFL in a demanding push for AFL selection, with a stunning performance marked with 29 disposals, three goals and a league-record 24 tackles against the Gold Coast Suns the pick of the lot.

The 2015 draftee has since made a seamless transition into the AFL and credited his form to strong support.

“The coaches and players have been massive to me and are just telling me to back myself in,” Dawson said.

“They’ve been saying I’ve been ready for this opportunity and I’m just happy to be in the team and playing my role. I just want to keep doing what the coaches ask of me and what my teammates ask of me.”
