One of the most loyal and courageous players to have pulled on the red and white, Brett Kirk returned to the Sydney Swans following a coaching stint at Fremantle to take control of the club's forward line for the 2016 season.

He held the position for two full seasons as he helped mould the likes of Lance Franklin, Sam Reid, Isaac Heeney and Tom Papley into a powerful forward-line unit.

Originally recruited from Albury, the former co-captain and recipient of two Bob Skilton medals (2005, 2007) played 241 games over 11 seasons with the Swans.

He was an integral part of the Swans' march to the 2005 premiership, having been chosen as one of six co-captains to share the leadership duties following the forced retirement of Stuart Maxfield.

He then led the club as co-captain for a further four seasons (2006-2007, 2009-2010) before retiring in his final year as skipper.

Kirk enjoyed a short stint in the media before spending three seasons as an assistant coach with Fremantle, during which time the Dockers featured in three finals series and squared off in the club’s first Grand Final in 2013.
