Sydney Swans young gun Callum Mills says his team is excited at what lies ahead as they embark on their eighth consecutive finals campaign.

The Swans looked in danger of missing finals for the first time since 2009 after a 0-6 start to the season but turned their form around to finish sixth.

Mills said he was confident his side was switched on and ready for the month ahead.

“We’ve been on edge the whole year so there’s been no room to move but now we are excited by the opportunity we have in front of us,” Mills said.

“It’s really exciting. Finals is a great time of year; you start afresh and you go again.”

“We’re pumped up in Sydney and we’re ready to go.”

An elimination final against Essendon is the first challenge that awaits the Swans in their search for premiership glory.

The Bombers are likely to welcome back Cale Hooker, Michael Hurley and Orazio Fantasia from injury with the Swans optimistic of regaining the services of Dan Hannebery and Tom Papley.

Ruckman Sam Naismith also made a positive return from injury in Saturday's NEAFL preliminary final win over Gold Coast at Blacktown International Sports Park.

Mills said his side was ready to face whatever came their way on Saturday afternoon.

“I know it sounds boring and cliché, but to win the amount of games we have and to come back from 0-6 is great but now the slates clean and we have to go again against Essendon which we’re really excited about,” he said.
