The Sydney Swans have finalised their leadership group for season 2019.

Following Friday’s announcement that Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe will co-captain the side next season, they will be joined by Jarrad McVeigh, Nick Smith, Isaac Heeney, Callum Mills and Tom Papley in an eight-man leadership group.

For Heeney, Mills and Papley it’s the first time they’ve been named in an official leadership role.

Heeney, 22, who joined the Swans in 2014 from the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, has played 80 games in four seasons and has kicked 79 goals.

Fellow Academy product Mills, 21, joined Sydney one year later and has played 55 games in his short career so far. In 2016, he was named the AFL’s Rising Star.

While Papley, 22, was rookie-listed by the Swans in 2015 and has played 60 games in three seasons, kicking 83 goals.

Swans coach John Longmire says it’s great to introduce some fresh faces to the leadership group.

“It’s really pleasing to see Isaac, Callum and Tom join the Club’s leadership group for next season,” Longmire said.

“All three have proven themselves to be outstanding young leaders in their short careers so far and are great additions to the group.

“Our new co-captains as well as Jarrad and Nick have been exceptional at setting the standard and showing the way and it’s great we’re in this position to introduce three new, exciting young faces.”
