Teammates confident Sam Reid will be fit to play in the Grand Final
THE SYDNEY Swans are confident Sam Reid will be fit for next Saturday's Grand Final after the big forward jarred his knee in their huge preliminary final victory over North Melbourne.
Reid was replaced in the second half of Friday's game at ANZ Stadium after being involved in a heavy first-quarter collision.
The Swans went on to win by 71 points and advanced to their fourth grand final in the past ten years and their second in the last three.
Reid was the only slight injury concern for the Swans and should he be right, the club will almost certainly field their strongest available side in each of their three finals matches.
He didn't participate in Saturday's recovery session at the SCG, but afterward colleagues Ben McGlynn and Nick Malceski allayed any fears about his fitness.
"He's fine, I think they are more just taking a precaution with him," midfielder-forward McGlynn said. "He said he just jarred his knee a little bit, but he's sweet today and he should be fine."
Defender Malceski expressed similar sentiments after speaking to Reid on Friday night. "I asked him on the bench last night if he was alright and he said 'fine', so he'll be sweet," Malceski said.
The only injury worry for Sydney in the leadup to the preliminary final, Malceski reported no issues with the hamstring that troubled him after their qualifying final victory over Fremantle.
"My hamstring is in one piece, which is good," Malceski said. "It was fine. I did nothing for a week, which was really helpful and just took it easy and had a lot of physio and did everything I could.
"Everything was a bit tight around the end of the game, but the hamstring is fine."
