The Sydney Swans are on track for record membership in 2014, with the club reaching the 30,000-member milestone this week.

The milestone, which was reached at midday on Tuesday, was the fastest rise to 30,000 members in the club’s history.

Swans coach John Longmire said the playing group were thrilled to see the membership numbers continue to grow in the lead up to the 2014 AFL season.

“It’s fantastic news for the football club,” he said.

“The players and coaches keep note of the running tally of our membership and how important it is to keep the club competitive.

“That’s why we keep an eye on it and the players really enjoy it when there is a lot of red and white at our games and the more the better.”

With the SCG’s new northern grandstand now complete, Longmire said the side was looking forward to playing in front of a packed stadium this season.

“We’d love to be able to have as many big games with as many people as we can get up in the stands,” he said.

“The buzz that the players get when they run out in front of a packed house, there’s nothing quite like it.”

Following on from 2013’s record number of 36,358 members, Longmire said the club was on track to reach the 40,000 membership target this year.

“It’s the quickest we’ve ever got to 30,000 members and last year was a record year,” he said.

“It’s great that we’ve got off to such a quick start.

“We’re after 40,000 members, that’s what our goal is, and there is plenty of room left so we can’t wait for more fans to sign on.

“40,000 members is our goal, and we want to see those members who are yet to sign on this season get on board for 2014.”
