Ten players yet to appear for the Sydney Swans senior side have been included in the 29-man squad for Thursday night’s first NAB Challenge match against GWS in Canberra.

After impressing in last week’s intra-club clash, 2013 draftees Aliir Aliir and Toby Nankervis are in line to pull on the red and white jumper for the first time, as are last year’s delisted free agent recruits ruckman Tom Derickx and defender Jeremy Laidler.

Senior listed players Jordan Lockyer, Harry Marsh and Dean Towers, as well as rookies Jake Lloyd, Sam Naismith and Dan Robinson, round out the uncapped Swans players to make the initial squad.

Co-captains Kieren Jack and Jarrad McVeigh will lead the side in its first competitive hit-out of the pre-season, with fellow club leaders Josh Kennedy, Ben McGlynn, Ryan O’Keefe, Ted Richards, Rhyce Shaw and Nick Smith also named in the squad.

Thursday night’s match will see Tom Mitchell, Sam Reid and Shaw make their respective returns from injuries suffered during the 2013 season.

Notable absentees from the first pre-season game include talls Adam Goodes, Lance Franklin, Kurt Tippett, Mike Pyke and Lewis Roberts-Thomson, speedster Lewis Jetta, and 2013 first-round draftee Zak Jones.
