One of the greatest full-backs of his era, Jim Cleary played 222 games for the Swans in a career which lasted from 1934 to 1948. A regular player for Victoria in State football, he was the Club’s Best and Fairest in 1942 and 1944, and was a member of the 1945 Grand Final side. Jim was renowned for his sportsmanship and was known as “Gentleman Jim”.
