Swans’ injured forward Gary Rohan has taken the first step on his road to recovery.

Rohan, who suffered a season ending fracture to his tibia in round four, is now out of plaster and set to return to his home town of Cobden.

Speaking to Kieren Jack on SwansTV this week, Rohan said his first stage of recovery took longer than he first thought.

“I was supposed to go home about four weeks ago but the wound where my bone came through the skin hasn’t completely healed yet,” he said.

“It’s slowly getting there and should be fine by next week so I should travel down with the team (when they play) Essendon and then I’ll stay at home for two weeks, and then I’ll come back up and start my rehab.

“I’ll then start swimming and (doing) weights and try to get bigger than I am now and we’ll see how we go from there.”

The young Swan said he was looking forward to taking some time out in his home town and added that he might even offer up his football knowledge to the local football club.

“I always look forward to going back home to ‘Cobbo’, as the boys would say,” he said.

“I’ll go home and chill out on the farm and go watch my local team Cobden play and might even get in the coach’s box and pull some moves, so that will be good.”

In the meantime, Rohan has been very busy taking on a number of new roles at Swans HQ.

Rohan has taken on the important role as media intern, and has also lent a hand in the membership department.

Rohan said he was a bit nervous about manning the phones in the membership department.

“I was scared I was going to ring up and said ‘Gary Rohan here from the Sydney Swans’ and they’d be like ‘Who?’” he joked.

“If that happened I wasn’t sure what I was going to do because I’m still learning about membership.

“So I guess I just want people to know that if you get a call from someone called Gary - that’s me!”

Rohan has also been under fire on social media about his role as media intern.

He said he’d received a few jealous tweets about the highly sought-after position.

“There’s been a bit of a Twitter response since I became the intern,” he said.

“I think there are a few media university students out there who are after my job!”

“But you never know what happens after footy. Maybe when I retire I’ll come in and take the media boss’ job here!”
