Sydney Swans midfielder Craig Bird has been nominated for the Origin AFL Goal of the Year for his terrific snap goal against West Coast at Patersons Stadium on Sunday.

Bird kept the ball alive near the boundary line and, being careful to avoid the oncoming smother, flung the ball on his left boot. The ball arced high and straight through the goals at an important juncture in the game.
