Swans reserves shift to Lakeside
The Swans reserves game against Gold Coast Suns reserves is now at Lakeside Oval this Saturday …
THE Sydney Swans reserves will play the Gold Coast Suns reserves at Lakeside Oval, opposite the SCG, this Saturday afternoon.
Swans fans are welcome to attend the match, which will begin at 1.50pm. Access to the Lakeside ground is free, and is via Driver Ave.
The reserves were originally scheduled to play on the SCG, at the same 1.50pm starting time, ahead of the main game between the Swans and Port Adelaide at 7.40pm.
However after recent heavy rain in Sydney the AFL has directed that the Swans reserves game be moved to ensure the best playing conditions for the senior game.
The AFL’s turf consultant advised that at this stage the SCG should not host three games on the same day.
Due to the change in venue for the reserves, the SCG gates will now open at 4.30pm, just before the curtain raiser between Sydney AFL club East Coast Eagles, and South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club, Port Adelaide Magpies. That match will start on the SCG at 4.45pm.
Those two clubs are playing as part of a new knockout competition, the Foxtel Cup, which involves clubs from around Australia who won their state league premiership in 2010.
As that game will be broadcast on Fox Sports, it was unable to be moved from the SCG.
