Jarrad McVeigh says the Swans will have to put in a "four-quarter effort" next Saturday night in order to beat an in-form Brisbane Lions outfit.

The Lions suffered a shock 50-point loss on Sunday, their first of the season, to big improvers Melbourne.

However, McVeigh says the Lions will certainly be a test for the Swans, and the first of a run of several tough clashes with sides including reigning premiers Geelong, the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle.

"It's definitely going to be [a test]. They were undefeated up until this week, so it's going to be a really good contest - i'm really looking forward to it. We're in good form and so are they." he said.

"To really compete with them, I think we need a four-quarter effort. We're playing in patches - good for 10 minutes, and then not so good. Our pressure was really good on Saturday, we stuffed a few kicks up but we recovered with good pressure

"Once we play four quarters of footy, then I think we'll be hard to beat. That'll be our main focus over the next couple of weeks."

Despite being named best on ground, McVeigh said the Swans' win over longtime rivals West Coast on Saturday was very much a team effort.

"Receiving the award (the HMAS Sydney II commemorative award for best on ground) was a bit of a surprise - it was just good to be able to contribute to the team.

"Braddy (Daniel Bradshaw) up forward, he's kicking a lot of goals at the moment, and Jesse (White) and Goodesy (Adam Goodes) bobbing up have been fantastic for us too. The midfielders are working well, our defense is playing really well - it's great to see the team in such good form, and a good all-round performance."
