Jarred Moore says the Sydney Swans aren’t taking their flying start to the season for granted as they prepare to face reigning premiers Geelong at Skilled Stadium this Sunday.

Ladder-leaders after six rounds, the Swans will travel to meet the Cats and Western Bulldogs in their next two matches, before tackling Fremantle at home in round nine. And while spirits are high after five consecutive wins, Moore says the team is well aware of the tough road ahead.

“Obviously we’ve got some confidence, but we’ve got a really challenging couple of games coming up with Geelong, the Western Bulldogs and then Fremantle after that, so we can’t really get carried away with this win. We’re in some good form though, and we hope to keep it up,” he said.

After managing just 16 games in 2009, Moore has started the 2010 season strongly, kicking four goals in six games played to date, and using his vision and creative passing to set up opportunities in attack for his fellow forwards. Having gathered 15 possessions and one goal on Saturday night, he said he was hoping to put in an improved performance against the Cats this week.

Moore said Senior Coach Paul Roos was happy with the way the team pulled together to plug the holes left by players including Jude Bolton, Ryan O’Keefe, Dan Hannebery and Mark Seaby, who each were forced off the ground with injury during the Lions clash, but, with the exception of Seaby, were all able to return to the field.

“Roosy was really pleased with the effort after Seabs (Seaby) went down and a couple of the guys got knocked out, so we were pretty undermanned on the bench but he said we fought it out really well,” Moore said after the game.

“We didn’t feel too much pressure with those guys missing, we just had to keep playing our role and I think everyone did that, especially guys like Nick Smith and Brett Kirk, who were on really good players like Luke Power and Simon Black and kept them pretty quiet.”

Moore was also full of praise for star forward Daniel Bradshaw, who shone against his old club with a six-goal haul, including an impressive torpedo speared through after the three-quarter siren.

“He keeps getting goals, doesn’t he?! Kicking barrels from 70 metres! He’s a really good focus up there and has been playing some good footy.”
