Mumford, who has not played since round three, returned to full training this week after a back infection kept him on the sidelines for six weeks.
Swans’ coach John Longmire said Mumford has done everything he could to make himself available for selection this week and will be assessed after the team’s final training session.
“Shane has done everything we’ve asked of him so far this week,” Longmire told sydneyswans.com.au.
“He trained on Wednesday and pulled up well today, and now he’s got to get through training tomorrow and we’ll see how he pulls up on Saturday.
“We’re hoping he can get through because he really has done everything we’ve asked of him to do.”
Swans’ defender Alex Johnson has also been named in this weekend’s squad despite leaving the ground after a knock to the elbow in last weekend’s loss to St Kilda.
Longmire said the young defender has pulled up well this week and is expected to line up with the team on Sunday.
“Alex Johnson is fine,” he said.
“He trained well on Wednesday also and he will do a full session on Friday and we expect him to play.”
First-year Swan Tony Armstrong and ruck/forward option Jesse White have also been named in the 25-man squad.
Longmire said Armstrong, who made his debut for the Swans in round six, will be a chance to make the final 22.
“Tony played one game for us this season and then went back to the reserves,” he said.
“His form has been solid enough to come into the squad and he’ll come under strong consideration at training tomorrow and will be a chance of playing his second game.”
The coach said White, who has played three senior games this season, has been included in the side as an option in the ruck.
“We’ve also added Jesse White to the squad as well just given the uncertainty around where Shane Mumford currently sits.”
