While only a handful of Sydney Swans have played in a winning side against Collingwood, there is one Swan who has never faced the Pies at all.

Swans midfielder Luke Parker didn’t feature in the side that took on Collingwood in last year’s six-point loss in round 13, and will get his first taste up against last year’s Grand Finalists this weekend.

The 19-year-old, who has developed into an important cog in the Swans midfield, told SwansTV that he was looking forward to taking on one of the toughest teams in the competition.

“I haven’t played Collingwood, so I’m expecting it will be a big midfield battle,” Parker said.

“They’ve got some of the most elite midfielders in the competition, so I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”

Despite never lining up against the Pies, Parker said he believed the Swans current form could see them get on top of the 2010 Premiers.

“We just need to keep going about our business the way we have,” he said.

“We need to win the hard ball and have everyone play their role, and basically everyone needs to keep doing what they’ve been doing because it’s been working.”

This week Parker will play his third senior match following five weeks on the sidelines with a fractured collarbone.

Prior to the injury, the teenager had hit a rich vein of form, recording a career-high 30 disposals in round three against Port Adelaide and was averaging 20.1 disposals per game in the first ten rounds.

Parker said he was focused on regaining match fitness so he could return to his early season form for the Swans.

“The body is going fine and the shoulder has been tested out a bit and it’s pulled up fine,” he said.

“I’m just trying to get my fitness and my match fitness back in my legs and hopefully I’ll be able to run through the season well.

“I missed five or so weeks, so it was just about getting the touch of the footy back and about getting back to where I was before I got injured.

“I don’t play for disposals each week, I just want to play my role and have an influence in the game, so that’s what I’ll hopefully do for the rest of the season.”

Starting with Saturday night’s blockbuster clash with Collingwood, the Swans face the Western Bulldogs (Etihad Stadium), Hawthorn (SCG) and Geelong (Simons Stadium) ahead of this year’s finals’ series.

Parker described the Swans’ next month as the perfect preparation leading into September.

“We’ve got some big games coming up but I think that’s good going into the finals,” he said.

“It will be good to get a few big challenges and big games into us and the last four rounds are pretty much going to be finals footy.”
