Scans today revealed Seaby had broken his left ankle during the first moment of the game on Saturday night against the Brisbane Lions.
Seaby limped from the field and was unable to return, and will have surgery tomorrow to repair the fracture.
He said he felt sharp pain at the first bounce of the game.
“At the first ruck contest, I just came down and all my weight was on my left foot and it obviously didn’t handle it well. I felt it jar, and felt a fair bit of pain go through my ankle and that was it really,’’ Seaby said today.
“I’m pretty shattered. It’s my first year at a new Club, and I was really hoping to have a big impact all year, but it obviously won’t be on the field for a few months.
“I’m sure there is stuff I can do and be involved with off the field, and I look forward to seeing the Club have a lot of success and being a part of that in other ways,’’ he said.
Seaby said when he has recovered from his operation, he’d like to assist the club’s budding ruckmen, Mike Pyke, Daniel Currie and Jake Orreal.
“I’d like to help out the younger ruckmen and be involved in some way,’’ Seaby said.
“It’s three months off which is disappointing but I look forward to really trying to push for selection at the end of the season. Hopefully once it’s fixed, it’s fixed good and won’t be an ongoing problem,’’ Seaby said.
Swans doctor Nathan Gibbs said Seaby had a scan early this morning which showed a fracture. “He’ll have surgery tomorrow to screw the bones together,’’ Gibbs said.
“Hopefully we’ll have him back on the field in 12 weeks,’’ he said.
