As the AFL community celebrates Sir Doug Nicholls Round, the GO Foundation, founded by Sydney Swans Legends Adam Goodes and Michael O’Loughlin, is excited to celebrate a significant milestone.

The Foundation will this week deliver its 500th scholarship as part of the Foundation’s vision of empowering young Indigenous Australians through education.

The GO Foundation’s scholarship program provides access, opportunities and support for Indigenous students in Sydney, Adelaide and soon Canberra, to ensure their journey through school is as rich and rewarding as possible.

Goodes said he could not be more pleased with all that the Foundation has achieved since it was founded.

“We are 4 years into GO’s scholarship program, and we are absolutely thrilled to welcome our 500th GO Scholar,” Goodes said.

“We’ve always had a big vision for GO.

“There’s still lots of work to be done so that more Indigenous students can fulfil their education potential beyond high school, and we’re excited for what the future holds.”

GO provides scholarships from kindergarten to university, in public and independents schools, to students who live with family, in community and on country.

O’Loughlin said he was so excited about surpassing the significant milestone.

“I’m so stoked to be awarding our 500th GO Scholarship,” O’Loughlin said.

“I couldn’t be happier about it! Education is the key to a brighter future for our kids, and we look forward to welcoming many more Indigenous students into the program.

“Plus, we’re about to launch GO scholarships in Canberra, joining Sydney and Adelaide, and that’s something I’m really proud of too.”

A GO scholarship is an entry point into the GO Ecosystem of trusted partners, a model of that empowers Indigenous youth to change their own lives.

By the end of the month it is expected that GO will have welcomed over 530 scholars, something the Foundation is incredibly proud of.

The Sydney Swans are proud to have the GO Foundation as the official charity partner of Sydney’s annual Marn Grook match, which includes the awarding of the Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal to the player judged best afield.
