The Sydney Swans will begin discussions with all 17 other clubs across the competition as the official AFL Trade Period starts on Wednesday.

Clubs have the chance to exchange players and picks over the next eight days with the trade deadline set for Thursday, November 12.

Executive General Manager of Football Charlie Garinder said there were a few key focus areas that the Club would be looking to target.

"It’s been well documented that we would like to bolster our ruck stocks, to provide support to Callum Sinclair with Sam Naismith obviously going down with an ACL injury last year,” Gardiner told AFL Trade Radio.

“We would like to secure an established ruckman and Kinnear and his team are talking to clubs to see what we can do in that space.

"We would like to bolster our scoring ability and bring in another scoring option, they aren’t easy to find.”

Gardiner confirmed the club had spoken with West Coast ruckman Tom Hickey about a return to the east coast of Australia.

"Kinnear and his team have spoken to Tom but he is just one of a number of players that we have spoken to,” he said.

“We haven’t kicked off any meaningful discussions about Tom."

Port Adelaide put in an enquiry about defender Aliir Aliir but that has been shut down by the Club.

"Aliir is contracted, he is a required player at the Club,” Gardiner said.

“Port Adelaide has expressed an interest but it hasn’t gone any further than that and we haven’t entered into any significant talks, there’s nothing going on there as far as I am aware."

Sydney currently holds picks 3, 22, 54, 56 and 76 heading into the National Draft in the week commencing December 7.
