We’re excited to confirm details of the opening rounds of season 2021, with the Sydney Swans to return to the SCG in Round 2 to take on Adelaide in a Saturday afternoon clash starting at 1:45pm.
The news follows the weekend announcement that the Swans will open their season with a Round 1 match against Brisbane at the Gabba.
The AFL has now confirmed full details of the first six rounds, along with opponents and venues for the remaining games of the home-and-away season.
Full details of the remaining rounds will be confirmed in blocks, with details provided 4-6 weeks in advance to give the league maximum scheduling flexibility.
The season will return to 23 rounds, including a bye for each team, while quarters will revert to 20 minutes plus time on, after being shortened to 16 minutes this year.
Key highlights of Sydney’s fixture include:
- Five Saturday games in the first six rounds
- A Round 3 clash at the MCG against reigning premiers Richmond
- A Thursday night school holiday blockbuster against Essendon at the SCG
- Sydney Derby XX in Round 5 at the SCG
- Six games in Melbourne
- Return clashes against St Kilda, GWS, Fremantle, Essendon and the Gold Coast Suns
- Marn Grook at the SCG against Carlton in Round 11
