Tanya Kennedy hails from Donegal, Ireland and grew up watching and playing Gaelic football before moving to Australia in 2012. After playing with Gaelic football club Clanna Gael Sydney, Kennedy tried her hand at Aussie rules, joining the Inner West Magpies for a season. She was recruited to the club's AFLW list ahead of the upcoming 2023 season and came into the squad following loss of two athletes due to injury. She went on to cement a permanent position after a stellar season with an average 13.3 disposals and 5.3 tackles.
