As the 2022 season approaches, and the new faces of the Bloods settle into pre-season training, we can now confirm the numbers the squad will be wearing in season 2022.

Young Swans Hayden McLean (2) and Sam Wicks (15) will wear new numbers in the upcoming season, previously wearing 41 and 45 respectively.

The number two guernsey is represented most often in the Swans Team of the Century, worn in most games in Swans history and worn by some of the club’s greatest players. Fred Goldsmith and Greg Williams wore number two in their Brownlow Medal years, and Goldsmith and Williams are in the Team of the Century with fellow number twos Vic Belcher and Herbie Matthews Sr.

Belcher, Matthews, Paddy Scanlan, Joe Scanlan and Charles Stanbridge wore number two as Swans captains, and Belcher, Matthews, Nick Davis and Rhyce Shaw wore number two in premiership sides.

The number 15 guernsey also holds significance, worn by 2012 premiership midfielder Kieren Jack and 148-gamer Bernie Evans and 129-gamer Bernard Toohey.

New recruit Peter Ladhams will wear number 19, a number worn most famously by the Swans by 303-gamer Michael O’Loughlin, Tony Armstrong, who played 15 games in 2012-13, and Daniel Bradshaw, who played nine games in 2010.

Angus Sheldrick, pick 18 in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft, will wear number 29. Most previously by George Hewett, it’s also the number of Premiership players Chip Turner, Dinny Kelleher and Martin Mattner and 213 gamer David McLeish.

Matt Roberts will wear number 34, the number most recently worn by Jordan Dawson. The number was worn my Premiership players Bert Beard and Alex Johnson as well as 155-gamer Troy Luff.

Corey Warner will wear number 37, one of the most historic numbers in the club’s history, a guernsey worn by Swans legend Adam Goodes. The two-time Premiership player holds the Swans games record with 372 games in red and white.

Lachie Rankin will wear 41, a number worn by Shane Mumford and most recently worn by teammate Hayden McLean.
