The Sydney Swans today confirmed that exciting youngster Gary Rohan would miss the remainder of the 2012 season after suffering a compound fracture of his right tibia during the first quarter of Sunday’s match against North Melbourne.
Swans coach John Longmire today visited the injured forward in hospital.
“Considering what he has been through he is in really good spirits, and even cracking a few jokes,” Longmire said.
“He had a pin inserted to repair his fractured tibia overnight and everything seems to have gone as well as it can so far,” he said.
Longmire confirmed Rohan would miss the remainder of the 2012 season and hoped he would be ready to resume training in the preseason, ahead of the 2013 season.
“Gary is such an exciting talent and a great character to have around the Club. Everyone wishes him well for a speedy recovery,” he said.
Longmire also confirmed that ruckman Shane Mumford was today treated for an infection in his back.
The infection occurred as an adverse reaction to an injection Mumford was administered in the lead up to the round three clash against Port Adelaide.
Longmire said Mumford had not been ruled out of Sunday’s clash against Hawthorn in Launceston.
“Shane has had treatment today for the infection and is on a course of antibiotics,” Longmire said.
“We are hopeful he will take part in our main training session on Friday and be available for selection this week.”
The 25-year old was a late withdrawal from the Swans round two-match against Fremantle at the SCG with a wrenched back.
He returned a week later for the Swans round three win over Port Adelaide.
Mumford pulled- up sore during training last Friday, with what was suspected as a reoccurrence of the back injury, and was withdrawn from the squad to face North Melbourne.
Swans medical staff today confirmed that it was the developing infection in his back that was causing Mumford the discomfort.
