Sydney Swans forward Tom Papley has undergone scans after suffering a hamstring injury in Friday night’s practice match against GWS in Albury.

Papley suffered the injury in the first quarter of the match at Lavington Sports Ground and took no further part in the game.

Scans have confirmed a medium grade hamstring strain that is likely to sideline the All Australian for four-to-six weeks.

Sydney Swans Executive GM – Football Charlie Gardiner said the injury means Papley will likely miss the round one Sydney Derby at Accor Stadium.

“Tom has had a terrific pre-season, and while this is clearly a setback, he sets high standards in the way he trains and plays, so we know he will do everything he can to minimise the disruption to his season,” Gardiner said.

“We will see what sort of progress Tom makes over the next few weeks but we’re still hopeful of having Tom available early in the season.”
