On Friday night we’re looking forward to welcoming members of Down Syndrome NSW to the SCG, many of whom will form a guard of honour as our team runs out for the match against the Western Bulldogs.
We’re proud to partner with Down Syndrome NSW as part of our Diversity Action Plan. The organisation works to support all people with Down syndrome to achieve their full potential.
One of their Board members, Charlie BurFitt, touched our hearts earlier this year when he shared the story of his family.
An incredibly proud dad of four children, including Raphael who has Down syndrome, Charlie spoke of his passion for normalising what disability means.
“Our beautiful Raph burst onto the scene almost four years ago in dramatic fashion and changed our lives forever ... for the better!,” he said.
“Raph has taught us the meaning of love. Not only does he shower us with it himself, but our whole family has learnt how to love more deeply and completely since Raph came along.
“He's definitely our wild child (loves a wrestle!) but he and his siblings are far more alike than different. He deserves to be here just as much as anyone else and we wouldn't have him any other way.”
