The AFLW trade period wrapped up on Wednesday afternoon, with the Sydney Swans completing a three-club trade with the Brisbane Lions and Hawthorn to bring star forward Taylor Smith to the club on the final day.
Since her debut 2020, Smith has played 77 AFLW games in total and kicked 67 goals. She booted 18 goals this season to help the Lions into another Grand Final.
Speaking to media at the conclusion of the final day of the AFLW trade period, Sydney Swans AFLW List Manager Phoebe Carter said she was thrilled to welcome Taylor to the club.
"We had a positional need that we wanted to get, and Taylor is one of the best forwards in the competition, so we were really excited to get that one done," Carter said.
"We were working with Brisbane the whole training period on getting that done, and we were really confident we would get there, so we are thrilled to have landed her."
Carter said she was pleased with how the trade period had played out and the club's position heading into Monday's Telstra AFLW Draft.
"We were really happy to retain a pick in the first round, that was our goal the whole time," Carter said.
"We are always dictated to by other clubs in terms of Academy bids and we're going to work through a whole range of scenarios, including our academy talent, to have the ability to be flexible on Monday night."
Sydney holds picks 18, 28, 46, 65 and 83 in Monday's Telstra AFLW Draft.
