The Sydney Swans have welcomed two key position players, Harrison Arnold and Jack Buller, in the 2023 Mid-Season Draft on Wednesday night.

Arnold, a 24-year old, 194cm and 95kg key defender, joined the club from the Brisbane Lions with the Swans first pick of the night, pick 5.

Originally from Mackay in Far North Queensland, Arnold came through the Gold Coast Suns Academy and played for Broadbeach before moving to Brisbane. He has spent the last two seasons with the Brisbane VFL side and has had a solid year in the key defender position for the Lions.

Also joining Arnold as a fresh face at the club is 22-year old West Australian Jack Buller.

Buller, who joined Sydney via pick 13 from the Claremont Football Club is a 199cm and 99kg key forward/ruck. He has had some standout performances in the WAFL this year and recently represented WA in the WA v SA representative match. A known goal kicker as well as his solid ruck skills, he was also part of the AFL Academy in 2018.

Buller came through the WA pathway system with current Swans young stars Chad Warner and Logan McDonald and all three were part of the 2019 Western Australian National Championship winning side.

Post the Draft, Sydney Swans General Manager - Recruiting and List Strategy, Kinnear Beatson said he was pleased to add two key position players to the Swans list.

"Our clear focus going into tonight, on a short and long term basis was to bolster our key position stocks," Beatson said.

"It's no secret we have a few problems down there at the moment with injuries so we were getting stretched without any mature age players to fill those ranks for us so it was a clear focus for us."

"We really liked Harry last year, but he broke his clavicle in the VFL in July and needed surgery so that put an end to his season so we weren't able to continue to assess him. This year however, he has done a pre-season with the Lions and he is physically well equipped for AFL football. His form has been really good and he has been playing on all types. His organisational skills and working with other defenders is impressive, he is a mature guy so he is ready to go.

"Jack has always been around the scene being in the WAFL program and AFL Academy in 2018 but he has got himself really fit and taken his football to a higher level. Don Pyke has strong connections in the WAFL and with Claremont and we heard he was in very good form. He can also go into the ruck, he competes really hard - that was one of the key things we liked about him as a key forward and a ruckman."
