The Sydney Swans are excited to announce Chloe Molloy and Lucy McEvoy as co-captains for the 2023 NAB AFLW Season.

The duo will take over the leadership from inaugural co-captains Maddy Collier, Lauren Szigeti, and Brooke Lochland ahead of our second season in the competition.

Molloy and McEvoy have made a profound impact since their arrival at the club and were deservedly voted in by their peers to lead the red and white.

Sydney Swans AFLW coach Scott Gowans said both athletes bring a wealth of experience and professionalism to a young and exciting playing group.

“We’re incredibly excited to have Chloe Molloy and Lucy McEvoy lead our team in 2023,” Gowans said.

“We’re grateful to have had Maddy, Lauren, and Brooke as co-captains in our first season, but now it’s time for Chloe and Lucy to forge their own legacy as leaders.
 
“Both have natural leadership qualities, a strong desire to succeed, and have demonstrated resilience as they have both had to overcome injuries.
 
“They are the ultimate professionals on and off the field and we’re excited to see what impact they will have in 2023.”

Molloy will add the co-captaincy to an already impressive resume that boasts two All Australian selections (2018, 2021), and the NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star Award (2018).
 
The 24-year-old says she is thrilled to be voted in by her team-mates in her first season in the red and white.
 
“Humbled and grateful are two words that come to mind,” Molloy said.
 

"The Swans are a proud club with a rich history, and to be named co-captain alongside Lucy is something I take enormous pride in.
 
“I’m determined to repay the faith of the coaching staff and my team-mates who have supported Lucy and I to lead our team in 2023.”
 
McEvoy, who was also one of eight new signings for the upcoming season, says she will embrace her role as co-captain.
 
“This is a really special playing group and to have the opportunity to co-captain the team is one of the highlights of my career so far,” McEvoy said.

 
“There are plenty of reasons to be excited about the new season, and I will be doing everything I possibly can to do the jumper proud on and off the field.”
 
The Swans will start the season with back-to-back home games at North Sydney Oval, starting with a blockbuster Sydney Derby on Sunday, September 3. The club’s remaining three home games will be played at the Inner West’s Henson Park.
